Here's what looks like is going to happen. We're here at Ashley and Alex's till May 17, that's tomorrow, when we fly to Rome where we'll be staying at the fabulous Domus Mariae. You can check it out with one click. Today is Sunday and we're on our way downtown towards St. Paul's and points west. Once in Italy, however, our plans are to head south to Naples and hit some sites there, then north to Florence and Siena where we hope to stay with an old school Fayetteville friend, Debbie. Then we fly back here on the 27th maybe then home to New Orleans on the 1st then to Fayetteville, sweet Fayetteville the next day. We hope all are well wherever you are.

Hello yous. I don't know if anyone ever looks at this anymore. Ashley, my friend in London, says I'm a bum, so I'm doing a bit today. We're in London now after a wonderful last two days in Athens. But we're here now and I'm excited to be here. We're staying at Ashley and Alex's until Monday then on to Italy for awhile. All right. Now you know. It's so beautiful here in Hackney - I wish you all were here.

Hey, y'all. I got rid of the movie reviews, and I'll try to write some about Istanbul (not Constantinople) soon. I'll try to write for just a bit right now.
When I first got there, it was at night, and as the cab was driving around trying to find where I thought Kirsten was staying, we turned a corner and there was Hagia Sophia lit by giant lights with gulls circling the minarets. That night, after learning that the American School wasn't due to arrive until the next night, I walked to The Paris Hostel where I ended up staying. OK, I have to go. More later.

Here are two reasons I haven't been updating the site. I'm writing all the time it seems like, and I'm stressed out a lot, but I'm enjoying it.
Brahms
Cellist
For some reason, the film reviews aren't listed on the site, or I'd link to them too. So far I've done Haunted Mansion (uh, sucked) and Scary Movie 3 (funny to me), and I just saw Hildago which is a terrible piece of pretty crap. I mean the settings are nice and Omar Sharrif is cool, but dang. Other than that, our water heater blew up, my computer crashed for good, and my cell phone started acting strange all in the same week. So, what can you do. I'm working at the Athens News part time now, doing film reviews and classical stuff when I can. I really will write something interesting here soon. I still miss you all.

Just wanted to let you all know that there are some new photos which Kirsten put up. Just click on the link to the right. There are some pictures of the recent snowfall and a picture of a sign at the National Gardens which reads:
ATTENTION
Dear Visitors
as you enter
the national garden
please keep in mind
that there is a possible danger
of unexpected fall of trees

We get to watch the Super Bowl! We're heading to the American Embassy 6:30 Monday morning, getting body searched, and then we get to settle in with the Marines to watch the game. I'm very excited about this. I haven't been inside the Embassy, so that'll be cool too, and I haven't seen any sports since . . . you know . . . some it'll be great. I heard there will be beer, but I'm not sure about this. I'll let you know. Semper Fi.
I thought of a few more interesting Greek things on the way to work. I'm writing a piece for the Athen's News about a concert Kirsten and I saw last week. It was Andras Schiff and his chamber group playing Mozart, and it was amazing. I'll send you a link to the article when it gets published. But more things about Athens:
There's much conservation here, but the conservation is mostly due to frugality rather than eco-driven concerns. The hot-water heater is above our tub. It holds about 25 gallons or so, and most people here who live in apartments--which is about everyone--use these only when they need them, so when we get up in the morning, we turn on the coffee pot and click the breaker for the water heater. It heats quickly and makes just enough for two baths.
Taxi drivers here don't usually stop for a fare. The person wanting to go somewhere holds there arm out at their side and the taxi slows down. As the taxi passes the possible fare, the person yells the part of town where they want to go, and if the driver deems it worthy, he'll stop the car. So, think of this and remember back to when we got here with our eight bags of stuff. Horrible.
